Kees Engelbarts
Date of Birth: June 1967
Location: ‘s-Heerenberg, The Netherlands
Education: School for Engraving in both Schoonhoven,
Netherlands and Fachhochschule für Schmuck- und
Edelsteindesign in Idar-Oberstein, Germany
Experience: I have been working in an engraving
workshop in Geneva, specializing in engraving for
high-end watch brands in Switzerland. Before becoming
independent I worked for Franck Muller for one and a
half years - starting in 1996.
Currently: Independant engraver, working for several
high-end Swiss watch brands and producing my own line
of watches under my own name. I make watches that I
like to make as well as special orders for customers.
For my own watches I focus mainly on Asian countries
because of the themes I choose.
Trivia: “I play the piano, accordion, musical saw
(Sandvik
Stradivarius) and the theremin (Moog). I love to
spend time with my 6 years old son Daan and my wife
Pascale. We love to go on lake Geneva with my
old-timer Dutch sailing boat (1969). I used to be a
pretty good soccer player until I hurt my knee and
would have probably been a pilot in the Dutch army if
I weren't 5% colorblind (lucky me). I adore Carnaval
and celebrate it with my friends in my hometown
's-Heerenberg in the Netherlands. I love to read books
about human behaviour and, finally, I like taking
pictures of my work although there always seems to be
a guy with a nicer camera and more experience than
myself who makes my pictures look so bad!”
